Haveo · Job interviews when they make you anxious

The weakness question

Name a real behavior, then the thing you already do about it. "I lose detail in long verbal briefs, so I write during them and send a summary" is honest, specific, and demonstrates the fix. That structure is the entire answer.

Why the fake answers fail

"I am a perfectionist" and "I care too much" are recognized immediately as non-answers, and what they actually signal is that you would rather not be straight with them.

The question is not really about the weakness. It is about whether you can assess yourself accurately.

The structure

A specific behavior, the context where it shows up, and the concrete thing you do about it. Three parts, thirty seconds.

The fix is the part being marked. A weakness with an active fix reads as self-awareness; one without reads as a risk.

Answering without naming a diagnosis

You never have to say ADHD, dyslexia or anxiety here. Describe the effect, not the cause.

"I read slowly under time pressure, so I ask for documents in advance and come in with comments" says everything useful and discloses nothing.

Pick something true but not central

Not the core skill of the job. A real thing at the edges, that you have genuinely worked on.

If the honest answer is the central skill, that is worth knowing about the fit before you talk yourself into the role.

Have it ready

It is the one question people improvise and then regret. Write it, say it out loud once, and it stops being the question you are dreading.

Common questions

Can I say I do not have one?
It reads as evasive and it is the answer interviewers most often flag. Everyone has one and the question is testing whether you know yours.
What if my weakness is nerves?
Usable, with a fix: "I used to go blank in presentations, so I rehearse the opening until it is automatic." That is a good answer.
Is it a trick question?
No, and treating it as one produces the fake answers. It is one of the more genuinely informative questions asked.
